The Miriam Lieberman Trio will perform at The Street on Saturday 27th February marking the release of Miriam’s single Just Transforming in the lead up to an EP release later in 2021.
Miriam is an award-winning singer-songwriter with an unmistakable voice, known for her own unique style on the kora- West African harp, the guitar as well as her songwriting. She will be performing with her trio - Lara Goodridge (Baby Et Lulu) and Susie Bishop ( Chaika)who both add soaring string arrangements and luscious vocal harmonies.
Miriam draws her influences from far and wide, having spent long periods of time studying traditional music in West Africa with local musicians, including celebrated kora player Toumani Diabate. With songs that carry a feminine perspective reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, Miriam sings of the wild beauty of the Australian land and seascape in which she grew up, her songs are infused with African rhythms and Wanderlust.
Rhythms magazine describes Miriam’s most recent album Full Circle as “A thing of intoxicating beauty” (Nov 2016) while her album Birds of The Moon (Nov 2014) made Album of The Week on RN.
"(Miriam) has a knack for giving her songs a feeling of significance, even while they float with effervescent pop pleasure. Wikipedia’s explanation of world music includes a cited description as someone else’s local music. In Lieberman’s case, it’s ours." - 31st The Age 31st October 2014
